Lawrence Talks! is an interdisciplinary media platform for the Lawrence, Kansas community. Bringing scholars from the University of Kansas, Haskell Indian Nations University, and other area institutes of higher education into conversation with community leaders, artists, entrepreneurs, and change-makers, our goal is to blend the research and insights of academia with issues and topics of interest to the general public. We are committed to being a space for underheard voices from diverse backgrounds as well as a free and accessible outlet for frank and open community conversations.

Trinidad and Tobago Carnival is, in the words of Caribbean scholar and theatre maker Errol Hill, “undoubtedly the greatest annual theatrical spectacle of all time”. The earliest Carnival Masqueraders in Trinidad were primarily held by and participated in by landed and slave-owning French whites and free “colored” people, who dressed up and celebrated in the form of balls imported from Europe.
