Lawrence Talks Podcast S2 Ep. 11 - Suzanne Valdez, Candidate for District Attorney
Candidate Spotlight: Suzanne Valdez (D)
Episode S2E11: Show Notes.
In this episode, Candidate for Douglas County DA Suzanne Valdez joins us to discuss her campaign. During our discussion, she shares what it has been like to run a campaign for the first time, clarifies her stance on no cash bail, and discusses her intention of creating opportunities for BIPOC in the DA's office.
Key Points From This Episode:
Valdez believes that the scope of the DA can, and will in her case, involve advocating for statewide policy changes.
Bail should not be ordered for non-violent crimes, and will never request it in such cases as DA. Does not commit to no cash bail ever, especially if imposing cash bail will keep the community safe from violent offenders.
Will seek to make the DA’s office more welcoming and inclusive of BIPOC lawyers and staff. Further, she believes that being a WOC herself will go a long way in keeping these concerns a constant initiative of DA’s office.
She is also committed to engaging with the public in making clear her position on community issues and on potential complex cases.
